Reindeer making with LC16

LC11 had a fabulous time making reindeer with our LC16 buddies. We helped them trace around their foot and their hands, and they did the colouring in. It was a lot of fun.

Reading

We read a book called "Sam's Glasses". It was about a girl who can't see the ball very well cause she was far away. She needs new glasses but she didn't want to get them. I made some glasses.

Skeleton Making

Mrs Kenyon gave us a test on our bodies. We had to name as many bones in our body as we could. We did really badly on the test so we've been learning more about our skeletons. We even had a go at making a skeleton. Take a look at how well we did.

Karna Neupane

We were fortunate enough to have Karna Neupane come and speak to us today about his life in his home country - Bhutan. Mr Neupane moved to NZ with his wife, parents and daughter in 2008.

A big thank you to Mrs McIvor for organising the visit for us.

We won a BBQ!

LC11 entered a colouring competition run by Fonterra to be in to win a years supply of ice cream or a BBQ. Unfortunetely, we didn't win the ice cream but we did win the BBQ. LC11 had the most entries out of the entire Manawatu area. You may have seen the BBQ at Touch Rugby on Monday night. We have decided to donate the BBQ to the PTA.

Mrs Squires - The Digestive System

A big thank you to Jo Squires (Ashleigh's Mum) for coming and teaching us about the Digestive System today. Jo is a nurse at the hospital and had a vast knowledge of this topic, among others. We all learnt so much. THANK YOU!!!!

Term 4 Personal Investigations

Don't forget that your Personal Investigations are due in week 6 - Monday 28th November. You need to write an inquiry question and then answer/investigate it.

You can record your details in a format of your choice - book, movie, powerpoint, speech, poster, board etc.

I look forward to hearing them.

Science with Plant & Food Research

http://www.flickr.com/photos/68331862@N04/

A big thank you to Dr Kerry Bentley-Hewitt and Paul Blatchford (PHD student) from Plant & Food Research for sharing some of their knowledge with us today.

We were lucky enough to be able to complete a variety of research with them. We looked at rats guts under the microscope, made models of germs - E-colo, Trichophyton, etc, washed our hands and then looked at the bugs that were left behind under the UV light, spat into a dish to see what bugs could be grown and tasted sweet, sour, and bitter items.

Email from Jenny 28th Sept

Dear Mrs Kenyon,

We have been to Tintern Abbey and Chepstow Castle. Tintern Abbey had lots and lots of bits and we kept going around the same one three times or so. We went to both of them with Aunty Carol, Dad’s sister. Before that we met Uncle John and went to a pub that was called the Bear and me and Bryony had fish and chips and really yummy afters. Then we went a walk along the Brecon and Monmouth Canal. The water was brown with bits of leaf floating around. We also saw narrow boats (barges) gliding along the water with little motors going chug-a-chug-a-chug-a. We’re staying in Staunton (known for its special “stauns” (stones)) in a house with stone walls about 40cms thick!

From Jenny.

Email from Jenny in the UK

Hello,

We’ve been having a great time for fun and game’s ( and giving presents)! By the way how are you all? I’m great. AND… what have you been doing? I’ve been going on long walks, meeting my family again and also sometimes getting a little bored. On the flights to Birmingham we stayed in two hotels one in Auckland and one in Beijing (which is in China). Auckland’s was not as posh as the one in Beijing (that one had a chocolate fountain)!

From Jenny =)

P.S we stayed in the hotels because our plane was hit by lightning strikes! (before we got on it thankfully!)

PE Session with our Buddy Class

We had another fantastic PE session with our Buddy Class today. LC11 picked all the games, set them up, and had a go at running the sessions for the children. It was challenging. Some children commented on how hard it was to get the younger children to listen to them and to follow their instructions.

Boat Racing

Today we raced the boats we made last term. The pool water was pretty 'yucky' but we managed.
Kayla had the fastest rubberband boat and Christian has the best sinker - we renamed his boat "Submarine".

Well done to you all for following the directions for boat making, re-writing them in your own words for your peers to follow and making such fantastic boats. Maybe you can make one at home.

Weight & Capacity

We have learning all about weight and capacity in LC11. Did you know there are 250mls in a cup and 4 cups in a litre?

Perhaps we could do some cooking with you in the weekend to help reinforce what we have learnt.

Click on this link to view the photos of the wonderful party we held for LC14. The party was a way for us to share the work we completed and have some fun with our LC14 friends.

Children had written stories and turned them into a puppet show, written books to share, put together a display of photos, selected the music we danced to and made 'home made' decorations.

I'm so proud of you all! Make sure you work this hard in all areas of your schooling and you will fly to success.

It was fun we also made kites and pawa. Matariki day was fun.

This morning I saw....... By LC11

LC11 wrote this poem. Every person in the class, even Mrs Kenyon, contributed one line. Then we sorted our lines into categories.

This morning I saw Aiman

Cam

Mrs Kenyon

A birthday boy

Hayley watching TV

My brother snoring

My brother yawning

People walking to school.

This morning I saw fog.

This morning I saw pictures of the tsunami in Japan.

I saw really thick fog

This morning I saw leaves rattling on a tree.

Kids playing soccer

People going for a morning run

People playing soccer on the court

This morning I saw cars

A van

This morning I saw fog

This morning I saw a dead possum

My pet Corgie

My dog barking

My cats fighting

My cat playing with my next door neighbours dog.

This morning I saw the gleaming water in the shower

The shower running.

This morning I saw a big juicy plum.

This morning I saw fog.

Writing with adjectives

WALT: recognise adjectives in our reading and use them in our writing.
Have a look at the fabulous description Lauren wrote about Mrs Kenyon. Look at all the adjective she used.

Mrs Kenyon is a fun, energetic teacher. With big, sparkling blue eyes and a tall, slim body. She has shining chocolate brown hair with highlights of yellow. Her voice is confident and cheerful. She has a beautiful silver locket around her long neck. Her jet black shoes gleam when you look at them. Her teeth are pure white.
